about

Naturally A Symphony of Horror, a recording for the 1922 German classic film Nosferatu, is not the full score, which would clock in at almost an hour and a half. However, it is wholly faithful to the original accompaniment to F. W. Murnau’s film. As with the accompaniment, this score is an improvised set of live electronics where, using MIDI interface, I was able to command several instruments simultaneously allowing for synchronization with certain effect parameters in order to create a blend of sounds, or rather, atmospheres.
This work coincides with the recent re-release of the film with a re-recording of the original score for the home digital video market. However, like many cinema enthusiasts, I believe that, to really appreciate this landmark work of European film, it should be viewed in the context for which it was intended - the big screen.
